Extreme Weather Data

Our team has processed several existing environmental exposure datasets to county, ZIP/ZCTA, and census tract levels (depending on the available resolution). Our goal is to make extreme weather data more readily usable for researchers, particularly those who do not routinely work with these data types.

Each exposure follows the same structure. An R package provides functions to download, summarize, and map the data, while the processed data itself is hosted separately on Zenodo and fetched on demand. All code is open source and freely installable from our GitHub organization. Every dataset carries a permanent DOI and full metadata, and because the data is stored in an open format, it is accessible to non-R users as well.

Data was produced in collaboration with Dr. Prachi Sanghavi, and with support from the Center for Climate, Health, and Society (CHAS) at the University of Chicago and the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth (ICSG) at the University of Chicago.
