Extreme weather, climate change, & Health at the University of Chicago

Extreme weather events and environmental disasters create significant health hazards for people around the world. Climate change is amplifying the frequency and severity of many of these exposures, yet the communities facing the greatest impacts are often those who have contributed least to the problem.

Dr. Kate Burrows’s Research Group is focused on evaluating the health impacts of extreme weather on human health, using a range of quantitative and qualitative methods. Our research underscores the upstream determinants of health, and how social and environmental systems interact to produce adverse health outcomes. This research aims to improve global health equity, particularly in the context of a changing climate.
